High School English and ESL staff will navigate 6 course sections to gain a deeper understanding of the new ELAR TEKS that will be implemented in the 2020-21 school year. Each course section covers one strand of standards, as well as a bonus course section for text complexity.
This course is for elementary science teachers. It covers background knowledge that TEACHERS should know and be able to do before teaching the science units connected to the topics covered. Content Explorations may go deeper and broader than students are required to master, even at the 5th-grade level. Please refer to the grade level TEKS and the ARRC in order to determine what students should know and be able to do at the grade level you teach.
It is helpful for teachers to understand science content at a deeper level than their students so that they are aware of how the science content they are teaching builds conceptually over time. Teachers at higher grade levels sometimes see misconceptions that students have formed due to incomplete understandings of parents and educators at younger grades.
Teachers are not expected to come to this course already knowing the high level of science content included. This is a self-paced and self-driven course. No one will be reviewing your responses to assessment questions.
Teachers will navigate 6 modules to gain a deeper understanding of the new language arts TEKS that will be implemented in the 2019-20 school year. Each module covers one strand of standards, as well as a bonus module for text complexity.
